Horseback Activity... Our accommodations are currently closed and there is no horseback riding opportunities at this time.
Beyond our amazing cabins, guided horseback trail riding is certainly the focus at the Kickapoo Valley Ranch. And how do we offer something different from the typical "riding stable?" It is very simple to us. We offer a full range of trail riding opportunities and the greatest Western-bred horses around! These aren't nose-to-tail, follow-the-leader, "brain-dead" horse trail rides. This is real western horseback riding! That doesn't mean we go "tear-ass" running all over the place (we do not run our horses* see below) but you definitely know these are highly responsive, real horses! During April's "off-season" when weather permits we have an incredible, one-hour or so ride on the area's quiet country roads and on our own acreage that takes you to the top of the property with views that stretch for miles! From May 1st through November 1st, we specialize in extended rides into the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. We look forward to riding with you soon! Guided Horseback Trail Riding for Cabin Guests... During their stay at the Kickapoo Valley Ranch, many of our cabin guests venture out on guided horseback trail rides with our incredible wranglers. Why stay and not just come & ride? First of all you would miss out on our amazing accommodations! (See the Lodging page for more details.) But more importantly, cabin guests come first when we work out a daily riding schedule; the general public is "filled in" after we take care of all the cabin guests. Also, cabin guests have a better opportunity to see more of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve on horseback especially with our new EXTENDED TRAIL RIDING PROGRAM. If you only come out and ride (the general public) you are most often limited to a one & a half to a two hour ride. Can you imagine a three hour ride, lunch up at the the Rockton Inn or a sack lunch on the trail by the River, followed by another three hour ride back to the Ranch?!?! This opportunity is never afforded to the general public. If you stay at the Ranch we have the ability to spend time with you on horseback & truly assess your skill level (potentially help you advance your skills) and often give you the chance to "move up" to a more challenging horse. So now the question is why would you want to do anything but stay with us for a few days???

Guided Horseback Trail Riding for the General Public... TRAIL RIDING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC...
***Extended trail riding into the Kickapoo Valley Reserve is available from May 1st each year through November 1st. Shorter rides averaging an hour to an hour & a half are available during the month of April. Inclement weather, terrain conditions, shoeing & vet appointments, hunting seasons and the number of other guests all impact our riding schedules. Call Cowboy Joe for details.*** For Horse Activities Policies & Pricing click here...
There are no accommodations at the Ranch for guest-owned horses. *Due to our rugged terrain, we do not run, gallop, canter, trot, lope or in any way move at a pace quicker than a walk. If you cannot enjoy time spent on the back of a horse at a walk in our amazingly beautiful countryside, respectfully, this would not be the opportunity for you.
